Bank layout and design has changed dramatically in the past decade.  Downsizing, automation of services and security issues are but three of a multitude of parameters that affect banking design.  Even the "generic" layout of queueing area, service counter and backdoor operations has been turned inside out; banks in shopping malls, outdoor booths and airports require use-specific design inputs.  Your best bet is, and always will be, to sit down and talk to your client and be clear about their needs and wants.
